This City Floats

by Torn Chorus

/

about

I wrote this song to celebrate Auckland (Tamaki Makaurau) - a unique city that is built on 53 volcanoes and surrounded by ocean.

lyrics

It’s uphill all the way, boy, but follow the beaten path and you’ll be right
There’ll be others on the track, hey, to reach the top gotta labour day and night
And when you reach the top, you can see for miles around
Just take a while to breathe, before you come back down, come back down
And think about what’s underneath, we float on molten rock below our feet
Before you take the final step, make sure that you’re prepared to take the heat
Take the heat, take the heat
And when you near the top, there is sea for miles around
Just take a while to think, before you climb back down, climb back down
When water meets volcanic flow, the force unleashed creates a new terrain
And so we must understand that solid rock will never stay the same, stay the same, stay the same
Our city never rests, it always seems to change
A floating city built on rock that never stays the same, stays the same, stays the same
