River of Tears

by Torn Chorus

/

about

Our close neighbour and friend passed away recently, well before his time should have been due.
He was a much admired member of the Mt Albert community and this unexpected loss touched us all very deeply, so I wrote and recorded this song as a tribute to his memory.

lyrics

There’s a river of tears, that runs so deep
It runs so deep, you don’t know that it’s there
It flows through a cavern, that’s so dark inside
And so empty, that it burns your soul
I’ve been washed by that river, I’ve looked into that cave
And I know that, I don’t want to look in there, ever again
That river of tears
Washes over me
That current so deep
So deep we just could not see
There’s a torrent of tears, can’t say how it feels
To brush against, that inexorable flow
It’s that icy pull, to contemplate
The acts of ending, of ending it all
There’s a hidden stream, that runs so pure
So pure and deep, and we had no idea, no idea it was there
We all did love, a golden soul,
A soul that shone, in the glory of life
We could never have guessed, the depth of despair
In such intelligence, that ran so true
And we know, the memory
Will live on, for ever more
